I don’t think I want to be a fictional character, it sounds stressful. If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why? It’s still creating a world, whether it’s in space or anywhere else. Is your writing process hugely different for fantasy and science fiction? I love secondary world fantasy and far future space opera, the less like our world the better.

What elements of fantasy and science fiction make you like reading and writing in the genre? It’s a secondary world fantasy, about immortals who once defended their world from a colonizing empire, and who are now trying to keep the coalition of countries from becoming an empire in turn. Your fantasy book Witch King comes out in May this year! Tell us a little about it. And the reader has to want to know what is going to happen to the character, what they’re going to do, to stay engaged with the story. I don’t think you necessarily need to identify with a character to make them great, but you have to be able to understand their point of view to a certain extent, even if you don’t agree with it or like it at all. I think that’s very different for different readers. After I get as much writing done as I can, I answer email and other admin tasks, and then take care of housework and errands in the afternoon. Now, basically because of all the stress, it’s about 500-700 words a day. Before the pandemic started, my goal was usually about 1000 words a day. I try to write in the morning, that’s usually the best time for me.
